Grounding & Bonding
Grounding and bonding are critical safety controls during vacuum truck operations, particularly when working with flammable or combustible materials. Improper control of static electricity can result in fires, explosions, equipment damage, and serious injury. This course is designed to help personnel understand these risks and apply grounding and bonding requirements correctly in the field.
Participants will learn how static electricity is generated during vacuum operations, how sparks can occur, and why grounding and bonding are required to control ignition hazards. The course explains the differences between grounding and bonding, how each works, and why both are necessary for safe operations.
The training also covers USAD grounding and bonding requirements, including inspection and recordkeeping expectations, approved equipment and materials, resistance limits, and verification practices. Learners will review how to properly ground and bond a vacuum truck, how to verify electrical continuity and resistance using appropriate tools, and how to recognize conditions that require stopping work and seeking guidance.
This course supports safe decision-making in the field by reinforcing verification, accountability, and stop-work authority. It is intended for personnel involved in vacuum truck operations, particularly in environments where flammable or combustible materials may be present.
